Our Neighbors are Struggling with Food Insecurity

Food Insecurity

Porter County has 18,430 individuals who are food insecure. In Porter County, that means residents live more than half a mile (urban) or more than ten miles (rural) from the nearest grocery store. These numbers are from 2018. Can you imagine how much they’ve grown since the pandemic and the current economic situation? Everyone is paying more for housing, utilities, groceries, and gas, but few have received wage increases or support significant enough to offset soaring prices.

Affects Your Neighbors

1 in 10 of our neighbors in Porter County do not know where their next meal is coming from.

And their Children

Food insecurity jumps to 1 in 5 amongst children in Porter County.
